Plantae - Curled Leaf 7 - Two Tapered Ends
This series is inspired by a leaf I saw on the rainforest floor in Belize in 2009. The leaf had fallen from the branches above down to the forest floor, and had begun to curl into itself. It was beginning the transition back to the black dirt from where it came, and creating an intensely beautiful sight in the process.
The Plantae series is as meaningful to me as it is visually unique. The sculptures both capture the aesthetic of the leaf in that moment, and serve as a visual reminder of how special our short time is here. This series is a celebratory reminder to cherish each day and live our lives to the fullest.
